Anyone who knows Cora Bett Thomas knows that her three basset hounds are almost always nearby. It only makes sense then that here at Cora Bett Vacation Rentals, we happily welcome your four legged friends in any of our pet friendly properties.
As the Savannah summer heat slowly turns to Autumn crisp in the coming weeks, now is the perfect time to plan you and your four paw family members’ getaway.
The city of Savannah is very pet friendly, from our fabulous walking tours of the city to our numerous pristine parks and dog parks ready to be explored! Many of our restaurants and shops also allow you to bring your furry friend along.
Our beautiful downtown iconic squares lining our Historic District are a must for guests and their pets. In addition, many of our parks have water bowls available for four paw friends visiting in the hotter months. Keep in mind, the City of Savannah’s Leash Law requires that all pets be leashed when visiting City parks, squares, and businesses, and requires pet owners to “scoop” up after their pets.
Most of our local favorite restaurants welcome dogs to join in designated outdoor seating. These include The Old Pink House, J. Christophers, Six Pence Pub, Collins Quarter, and many more. J. Christopher’s, has a fantastic breakfast and a separate “Doggie Bag” menu for the pup’s palate. Savoy welcomes dogs inside the restaurant! For coffee, we recommend Gallery Espresso on Chippewa Square, or the Sentient Bean on the south end of Forsyth Park. Clothing stores including Custard Boutique, a clothing store on Whitaker Street, and Terra Cotta, don’t mind furry patrons and even have a few of their own. Over in City Market, pet’s are welcome to grab a slice of pizza at Vinnie Van Go-Go’s and enjoy the live music outside of Wild Wing Cafe. Review the full list of pet-friendly restaurants and retail stores at BringFido.com.
With four shops throughout the Historic District, including one in City Market, Woof Gang Bakery is a must visit with your pooch! They carry a large assortment of treats, toys, special diet foods, and most locations also provide grooming services.
Cora Bett’s own Garden Suite Condo and gorgeous Carriage House are both available for rent and provide all the pet-friendly downtown amenities within walking distance, an opportunity to meet her basset hounds, and a beautiful getaway in the heart of the historic district.
The GA State Railroad Museum is outdoors, and always accommodates visitors with their pets. Several tours will allow you to bring your pets along on the adventure. Oliver Bentleys Historic Dog Walk Tour is tailored for people traveling with their dogs, and their oven-baked treats are made right here in Savannah. Old Savannah Tours Trolley Tours allow dogs up to 25 lbs, and you can bring a dog under 20 lbs on a horse and carriage ride with Plantation Carriage Company. Many walking tours are dog friendly, including Explore Savannah, Architectural Tours of Savannah, and Haunted Savannah Tours.
Located just a few miles from downtown, Daffin Park is a large dog park with designated areas for dogs of different sizes. In addition, the park is surrounded by large fields and ponds creating the perfect environment for a leashed walk after enjoying the dog park.
Mother Matilda Beasley Dog Park is the only dog park located in the Historic District with an off leash dog run. Although smaller than Daffin, this park is conveniently located, surrounded by many dog-friendly restaurants. Several of our pet-friendly properties are located within walking distance of this park, making it a perfect stop for you and your pooch.
If you want to go on a hike with your four-legged friend, head out to Skidaway Island State Park, where they allow dogs on their trails, or Fort Pulaski National Monument, which has a dog-friendly beach.
The Bohemian Hotel and the Savannah Humane Society are hosting “Yappy Hour” at the Rocks on the River patio! Held the first Sunday of each month, this event will feature a chef inspired pet menu, pet adoptions, and a happy hour drink menu, for the humans!
The Hipster Hound’s annual Wag-O-Ween is a family- and pet-friendly fundraising event taking place in Downtown Savannah and attracting over 1,000 participants with their furry friends. Humans and animals alike dress up in Halloween costumes and follow their event maps to over 100 businesses giving out dog treats and goodies. Because of COVID-19, Wag-O-Ween will take place over two days this year to allow for fewer crowds each day.
The Savannah Food Truck Festival, held October 11, is an annual event featuring featuring food trucks as well as fashion, barber and pet trucks!
The Savannah Bananas, Savannah’s baseball team have continued the tradition of Bark in the Park — game nights you can take your furry family members to, or even adopt one while you’re there!
Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or planning an extended stay, there are plenty of pet-friendly places for you and your pooch to explore in Savannah!
